Then she and her family are struck in a car accident that sends her into a time loop. Mae is forced to relive the Christmas holiday over and over. Now she must figure out how to break the cycle by finding what will make her happy, and finally take life into her own hands.
Brief Book Review:
In a Holidaze was a lovely experience; it was like breathing. It’s full of holiday traditions and romance. The novel is cute, but the prose tends to be fluffy and cliche, and the ending is predictable. However, if you’re looking for a light weekend read with festive Christmas rituals and a love affair, this book is for you!
My biggest issues with this novel are the characters and the time loop. The Groundhogs Day concept fell flat (almost as if it disappeared early into the story), and the concept isn't expressed clearly or very deeply. Sadly, the trials the main character faces are pretty surface-level, and her mentor seems more like a child than a guide. Andrew is my favorite character, but he was pretty perfect; he had no flaws.
What I love about the story is that Maelyn finds her resolution; she learns what truly makes her happy and discovers all she needs to do is be honest and be herself. I won't spoil how she figures this out, but you'll be pleased to know she finds a happy ending. It's a story of discovery that forces her to understand how to take charge of her life. Our protagonist realizes her path by reliving the same holiday, and when she does something that doesn't align with her heart - she starts over; but if Mae takes charge, she moves forward.
The core of this story is to take control of your life; it starts by being honest with yourself and staying true to who you are.
“The only person whose expectations you have to live up to is yourself.”
